Who am I? How many followers do I have? What is my Instagram following? How many friends on Facebook do I have?
I am not a celebrity.
I am not known by the general public.
I grossed more than 7.5mm USD in my 13 year career. That’s an average of $576,923.07 per year (equally divided over 13 years). I have done this without recognition, renown or status as a celebrity. The message in this article is not about shying away from public eye. My message focuses on how to “earn” money. Social Media has a way of warping reality. Many believe it is necessary to be notable to earn huge amounts of money. You do not have to be notable to earn more than 99% of the country. Dispel this myth.
You have five levels of notoriety in my mind. You can be a Generalist, Specialist, Expert, Thought Influencer or Celebrity. Every category has its high earners. In a previous article I cited what wage earners in the United States earn. I categorize a Professional Entrepreneur as a Profession.
I do not advocate for business.
I advocate for professionals who earn money in non employment settings. These individuals employ corporate structures for legal and tax purposes. The skill set of these individuals transverse multiple industries. The comparison of a Professional Entrepreneur is other professions. I compare myself against doctors, engineers, scientist, teachers, et cetera. The vast majority of our population does not own businesses. The vast majority of our population is not entrepreneurial. The vast majority of our population earns money.
Isn’t that the goal of everyone?
Businesses want “revenue”. I never encountered a business owner whose ultimate goal wasn’t to take home huge profit for them personally. Occasionally, I meet people who are cause driven. The people that are cause driven still require money. Everyone must use money to support their necessities.
In order to earn money you must analyze your market requirements. Market requirements are influenced by necessities. A business owner which cannot locate a service provider for their need will pay huge amounts of money. A business owner which discovers a service provider who takes payment later pays more. In order to become “the service provider” you need: credentials, licenses, or certifications.
You must become a professional.
A professional with no experience is a Specialist. A professional with experience is an Expert. Both Specialist and Expert are credible. Specialist and Expert are professionals. Becoming a professional enables you to instill credibility. Reputable third party confirmations verify your competency. Constructing a Credibility Box is essential. A Credibility Box is built through third party affirmation. Applying your Credibility Box takes keen observation. Unless you plan on making it on reality television I would encourage you to become competent. Competence is found through education. Education must be verified by third party sources.
Once you have tangible distinction apply your skills to individuals who lack ability to compensate you upfront properly. Measure your results to income for the business. Justify the compensation by directly linking yourself to the income. Never take less than 25% of what your actions realize. You may find your actions earn ten times more than a reputable up front service provider. Learn the value of accountability. Learn accountability commands the ultimate premium. Demanding payment for something you deserve is different than asking for payment on something yet to come.
Time is priceless.
Results are costly.
One has a price and the other doesn’t. Guess what? No recognition, renown or celebrity needed. Now you know my secret. If you’re the one person reading this article congratulations. This article is for you. Go make some money.
