Credibility requires success. Success finds company with those that are credible. The ability to recognize good company characterizes your peer association. Truth is found in simple statements. Parents often warn children against perils. A simple warning is “Be careful who you hang out with.”
This is as true for children as those seeking success.
Successful people associate with those that enjoy success. Success does not mean money. Money is often a characteristic of success. Success is the residence of anyone that strives for goals and attains the goals they desire.
Often successful people have money. In business deals successful people seek out relationships that augment their success. There is no in between. Professional Entrepreneurs first starting out always require references. References are your track record. If you have no references what do you do? Where is your shield to protect you from hailing arrows of doubt?
Insurance against professional flaws is a wonderful start (error’s and omission). People enjoy common sense facts. The fact you can guarantee your work against error is fantastic. Remember…people do not seek protection against errors. People seek success. Protection against errors provides assurances. Assurances are not the same as guarantees. There are no guarantees in life only odds. The odds of success must be greater than the odds of failure with Professional Entrepreneurs.
So how do you obtain confidence that you’re more success than failure?
Confirmation by association gives a reference point for a person to judge character.
If someone admires another and the person of admiration speaks highly of you their good words affirm your position. The permission to enter often relies upon the sponsor not the password. Confirmation by association is a tactic I often use to reassure new prospects. Trust cannot be built in one meeting. Trust cannot be built with long words.
Trust can be established with a long time friend’s vote of confidence.
Find a person who has connections. Connect with that person (not directly your sought after client). Offer the person a new way to earn money. Most individuals welcome new paths to wealth. After lighting the path to new found wealth inquire. Inquire if the person knows someone that will augment their progress. Explain you will support them to see them successful. Offer to defer your compensation. Explain deferment will give your new found friend an opportunity. People appreciate exceptions to rules. People appreciate help on a new path.
Often appreciative people will first search through close contacts. If the contact is someone you recognize that has a component you require ask for a meeting.
At all times value the person who introduces the contact. Empower the person who stands to make money. Build them up as a person of prestige. Explain your connection to them is valued. Elevating a person to such level rarely goes unappreciated. When a reference is asked of their friend your reference is positive. Often the relationship between you and them will be presented as one of trust. The strong endorsement from a close friend will give you confirmation.
Confirmation by association costs money. Confirmation by association costs as much as half of anticipated earnings. Do not fret over the cost of a relationship. Remember one hundred percent of nothing is nothing. Fifty percent of something is more.
Focus on highly probable outcomes. Focus on small margins that result in frequent successes. Frequent success will attract others to you. Developing your track record will become its own confirmation by association. Until such time start with the first rule of a deal.
Have a reference.
If you can’t give a deal reference make sure a personal reference will vouch for you. Confirmation by association might be the only reason you get the deal.
